Learn about the October Mobile Banking App Update
On October 10, 2024, we updated our Mobile Banking App with a brand new Plaid Instant Verification Feature. While this enhancement is working as expected, members with Android devices, running software with versions 11 and under are unable to access or download the new Premier America App.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
- Android 12 will be the new minimally supported operating system (OS). Android 13 and newer are fully supported.
- Members on unsupported OS versions cannot update or install the latest version of the app.
- If the member’s phone is eligible to update to the Android 12 or newer operating system, members should update the operating system prior to installing the new app. Once that is completed, they will be able to download and use the latest version of the Premier America mobile app.
IMPORTANT: If your phone cannot update to Android 12 or newer, you should not delete your current Premier America app.
- Impacted members can continue to use their previously installed version of the app or can access online banking through a desktop or mobile browser.
- This does not mean that affected members will need to buy a new phone. Their devices will still have access to the older version of the app. Members will still be able to send money, pay bills, view transactions, check balances and use other functions within the old app.
- Mobile browser access offers most of the functionality of the mobile app, but it does not offer native app features such as making Remote Deposits with their smartphone or using Biometrics.
- Any device that is still using an unsupported operating system will not be able to update to any later versions of our mobile app and will not have access to new features or improvements.
- Over time, access to existing features may be affected.
- Because support has been discontinued, issues with the older version of the app will not be able to be addressed.
QUESTIONS
Why did Premier America discontinue support for Android 11 and older?The Google Play App Store is used by many companies to deliver applications to devices and enforces certain compliance requirements. Older, end-of-life versions of Android and iOS operating systems (such as Android 11 and older) are not supported by Google or Apple, which means they no longer get updates from those manufacturers including security patches. Companies regularly update their apps to ensure compliance and enhance security, If a device does not include the manufacturer’s latest security patches, this could leave a member’s accounts open to serious security issues and potential fraud. For this reason, we make sure that our app is supported by the most up-to-date operating system for both Android and Apple iOS devices.
This change was implemented to comply with those requirements and ensure the security of members’ personal and financial information.
What is an operating system?
An operating system or OS is the essential software that runs mobile phones or tablets. iOS (for iPhones) and Android (for most other phones) are the most used operating systems in the world. Device manufacturers regularly update this software, to ensure that the phone features, security, and any apps you use can work at the highest levels.
Members can check to see what operating system their device is using by checking the settings section on their device.
Some devices are set to update their operating systems automatically. These can also be updated manually, usually with some simple steps in the settings section of their phone or tablet.
Where can I find my current operating system version?
On iOS: Go to Settings > General > About
On Android: Note: this may vary slightly depending on members’ current version and device manufacturer. Go to Settings > About phone > Android version
My software is up to date – what do I need to do?
If the software on a member’s mobile phone or tablet is up to date, then members can update to the new version of the mobile app and enjoy the new Plaid Instant Verification Feature.
How often does Premier America’s online banking provider discontinue support of Mobile OS versions?
While we do not have a set cadence for discontinuing support of Mobile OS versions, many factors are considered such as the ability to maintain security and development standards, overall usage across their partner financial institutions, supportability across third-party integrations, release of new OS versions, end of life dates, as well as many others.
Help! I deleted the older version of the mobile app and cannot install the new one. What do I do?
If your phone is eligible to update to the Android 12 or newer operating system, please update the operating system and then install the app. If you have an older device that is unable to update to Android 12 or newer, there is no way to reinstall the old version of the app, as the Google Play store will no longer carry it.
You are still able to use the mobile browser to access Online Banking from your smartphone or desktop browser.
