California has signed legislation that allocates stimulus payments to certain state residents. You may have questions regarding these payments intended to provide financial relief for those impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic and to support low-income Californians. What do I need to do to receive the California Stimulus Payment?
  • First, you must have filed your 2020 California taxes. If you qualify, you don’t need to do anything else to receive the stimulus payment.
How much will the payment be?
  • Payments will be $600. In some instances, residents will receive $1,200.
 Who will receive the payment?
  • California residents receiving Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) for 2020.
  • Households with individual tax identification numbers (ITINs) and an income below $75,000.
  • Households enrolled in the CalWORKs program.
  • Recipients of Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Payments (SSI/SSP)
  • Recipients of aid through the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI).
  • Some people who qualify as an ITIN taxpayer may also be eligible to receive CalEITC, which would allow them to receive a total of $1,200 in stimulus payments.
 When will payment be received?
  • With direct deposit, payments will be received up to 45 days after filing 2020 tax returns with the California Franchise Tax Board. Payment could take up to 60 days after filing if a check is received.
 How will the payment be made?
  • The payment will be by direct deposit or by check in the mail as determined by the tax return.
 Is there a deadline?
  • To receive a payment, a 2020 tax return must be filed by October 15, 2021.
