As we navigate through 2024, online banking has become more integral to our daily lives than ever before. With the convenience it offers also comes the responsibility of ensuring our financial information remains secure. At Premier America Credit Union, we're committed to helping you protect your assets and personal information. Below are the latest and most effective security tips to ensure your online banking experience is safe and secure.
Regularly monitor your credit report
Monitoring your credit reports annually is a crucial step in identifying any unauthorized financial activities under your name. If you notice any unfamiliar loans or credit card accounts, this could signal identity theft. You can review your credit report annually, for free, at AnnualCreditReport.com.
Don't share your authentication code
Never give your authentication code to anybody, even if you believe it is our Credit Union Team Member. We will never ask you to repeat your authentication code over the phone.
Avoid public Wi-Fi for financial transactions
Public Wi-Fi networks lack stringent security measures, making them hotspots for cybercriminals attempting to intercept personal information. Refrain from accessing sensitive accounts over public networks and consider using a VPN if you need to use public Wi-Fi.
Update your security software regularly
Keeping your security software updated is vital in protecting your devices from new threats. These updates often include patches for newly discovered vulnerabilities that could otherwise leave your system exposed to attacks. Be sure to update security patches for your Operational System (Windows, MacOS, Android etc.).
Be wary of phishing scams
Phishing scams, which trick individuals into divulging personal information, are increasingly sophisticated. Always verify the authenticity of requests for personal or financial information, and never click on suspicious links.
Utilize strong, unique username ID and passwords
Creating strong, unique usernames and passwords for each of your online accounts, especially banking and financial accounts, is essential. Use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols to increase the security of your passwords. It is especially important to create unique User ID for your different banking logins to prevent multiple attacks on your different accounts.
Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. This can significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your accounts.
Regular account monitoring
Regularly checking your bank statements can help you quickly identify and report any unauthorized transactions, minimizing potential damage.
Use Premier America’s official mobile app
For mobile banking, using your Premier America official app can provide a safer platform than web browsing. Ensure you download the app from a legitimate source and avoid storing login information in your browser or apps.
Stay informed about the latest scams
Being aware of the latest scams and knowing how to spot them is crucial. Always exercise caution with emails or messages that seem suspicious and verify their authenticity directly with the institution in question. Be sure to also scan for malware and viruses regularly.
At Premier America Credit Union, your security is our top priority. By following these tips, you can help protect your personal and financial information while enjoying the benefits of online banking. Stay vigilant, stay informed, and together, we can ensure a safer online banking experience for everyone in 2024.
