As the holiday season approaches, the joy of gift-giving and celebrations fills the air. While this time of year is meant for spreading happiness, it’s also a peak season for scams and fraud, especially when it comes to your banking.

Here are some easy-to-follow tips to keep your finances secure during this festive season:

Stay Alert While Shopping Online:

  • Use trusted websites: Stick to well-known and reputable online retailers. Check for “https://” and a padlock symbol in the address bar for a secure connection.
  • Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true: Scammers often lure shoppers with unbelievably low prices.
  • Avoid public Wi-Fi for financial transactions: Conduct online banking or shopping using a secure and private network.

Secure Your Accounts:

• Update your passwords: Create strong, unique passwords for each online account and change them regularly.
• Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): Add an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification, such as a text message or authentication app.
• Monitor your accounts: Regularly review your bank statements and transactions for any unauthorized activity.

Beware of Phishing Scams:

  • Never click on suspicious links or download attachments from unknown sources.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited emails or text messages requesting personal or financial information.
  • Don’t share personal information: We will never ask you to disclose your Online Banking information, nor will we call you and ask for your one-time passcode.

Protect Your Payment Cards:

  • Keep an eye on your cards: Ensure your credit and debit cards are always in your possession.
  • Set up Mobile Wallet: When paying with Mobile Wallet, the app replaces sensitive card information with a randomly generated string of data maintaining the security of your information.
  • Report Suspected Fraud Immediately:
  • If you suspect any fraudulent activity, contact us right away at 800-811-2917. Timely reporting can prevent further damage.
  • Freeze your cards: Log in to Online Banking or the Mobile App and navigate to Card Controls in the Main Menu and add a freeze to your debit or credit cards.
Remember, your financial security is a shared responsibility. By following these simple steps, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from falling victim to scams and fraud during the holiday season.
