Premier America Rallies For Second Annual Give Back Day To Fight Food Insecurity
CHATSWORTH, CA – NOVEMBER 13, 2024
For the second year in a row, over 300 Premier America Credit Union team members took to area fields and food pantries on Indigenous People’s Day to fight one of the largest crises facing our communities: making nutritious food accessible to everyone.
It is estimated that more than one in four residents in Southern California and Harris County, Texas, experience food insecurity. Hunger affects the old and young alike, and impacts groups of people regardless of employment status, education level, or ethnicity. Studies consistently show that food insecurity limits student learning, causes significant stress, and increases the likelihood of chronic diseases.
“One main feature of a strong community is access to healthy food,” said Marci Francisco, SVP, Chief Experience Officer at Premier America. “We are proud to again partner with six incredible organizations and collectively support our most vulnerable neighbors as we head into the holiday season.”
Six charitable organizations were chosen as partners for the event. Team members spent the day volunteering at the Houston Food Bank, Food Share Ventura County, Salvation Army Santa Clarita, Children's Hunger Fund, Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAPOC), and Pasadena Ronald McDonald House, where they sorted food and packed meals, replaced mulch, and planted strawberries.
At Food Share Ventura County, team members distributed 12 yards of mulch, packaged 1,200 unhoused food bags, and boxed up 1,080 senior food kits. There was a similar effort at Houston Food Bank where 31 pallets of food were packaged, adding up to 27,562 pounds of food equaling 22,968 meals.
“Each year, our team members come together to make an incredible impact for our neighbors and friends,” said Rudy Pereira, President and CEO at Premier America. “When we lift one person up, it lifts us all up. While just one day, our commitment is year-round to ensure we support the whole of our community and improve people’s health and financial well-being.”
Give Back Day has become an annual day of service, demonstrating the credit union’s commitment to making a positive impact on the community. Since its inception in 2023, Premier America team members have donated hundreds of hours of their time supporting hometown charities, and packaging over 50,000 meals to help those in need.
